Why we are different

Impact & Success
We originated the global conservation mechanism – Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD+) to stop deforestation. REDD+ was successfully mandated in the Paris Climate Agreement (2015), and covers 90% of the world’s tropical rainforests forests.
Equity & Scale
Boasting a voluntary membership of over 50 rainforest nations, we provide a single voice to countries that didn’t cause the climate emergency but nevertheless feel the brunt of it daily.
Paris-Agreement Mandate
We offer carbon credits issued by sovereign governments for accomplished conservation efforts, verified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), under Article 5 of the Paris Climate Agreement.

Our Vision

The Coalition for Rainforest Nations seek responsible stewardship of the World’s last great rainforests through innovative strategies which integrate social, economic and scientific rationales to achieve environmental and social sustainability.

Our Mission

The Coalition for Rainforest Nations seeks to create sound and long-lasting opportunities for environmental sustainability, social and economic advancement, strengthened capacity and international market reform in a manner that enhances tropical forest stewardship, biodiversity conservation and global climate stability by reversing the destruction of tropical rainforests.

Our Goal

We develop policy and tools that endeavor to achieve sustainability for forested and adjacent agricultural lands, and in the process:

  • Manage tropical rainforest areas in support of climate stability, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development and poverty alleviation
  • Create innovative financial tools in partnership with Governments, communities, business and relevant stakeholders
  • Enable sustainable livelihoods that improve living-standards for forest dependent communities
  • Set a precedent and enable similar outcomes other tropically forested countries.

“That only the forestry sector enjoys recognition as a unique article within the Paris Agreement is a lasting credit to the vision of Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare – founding father of REDD+ and his everlasting legacy”
