The Road to Belém

This November the Global Climate Summit. called the Conference of the Parties (COP30), will be held in the Amazon, Brazil and will be our last rainforest climate summit this decade. Its location, in the world’s biggest rainforest, will be a real awakening for the over 90,000 delegates attending both in terms of the importance of rainforests and the effect of climate on the more disadvantaged. Hopefully, COP30 will send a clear message that the world must act with finance and supportive policies to save the world’s tropical forests

The Brazilian government and CfRN are committed to making the summit a success. Our goal for COP30 will be to play our part in helping scale up climate finance from all sources to secure $1.3 trillion annually by 2035 for developing countries. For forests, CfRN is working closely with the COP30 Presidency and other partners to bring about the full reversal of tropical deforestation under the Paris Agreement.

From 19 to 23 – UNFCCC Climate Week 1st semester

June

From 16 to 26 – 62nd Session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies in Bonn, Germany

October

13 and 14 – The pre-COP will be held on October 13-14 in Brasilia, in the Federal District (DF). The pre-COP meeting gathers climate-negotiating ministers and seeks to promote agreements on key issues for COP30, which will be held from November 10 to 21 in Belém, Pará.

November

6 and 7 – Leaders Summit in Belém, Brasil

From 10 to 21 – 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference 2025 (UNFCCC COP30) in Belém, Brasil.

At #COP30, Deutsche Bank’s Jörg Eigendorf spoke on creating a Rainforest Sovereign Carbon Market. Nigel Howorth (CC) confirmed UN REDD+ results can be sold as carbon credits. Patrick Brunnings (Suriname) urged tech investment. Karsten Sach said trust is key to scaling markets.
